Since there has been a little chat about Cegga axes here of late, I thought you might like to see my wedding gift from the kind man. We were talking about the older Scandinavian "four lugged" design with a bearded feel.

This is Cegga's modern take on the classic design

Its currently in the hands of topknot for a suit of clothes in his inimitable style

Yep - in July Jon, sorry, should have mentioned it when you called . Still after 8 years she knows what she's getting I suppose :)

Glad you like it guys :). Just passing through whilst chatting to topknot.

Hmmm well in design it follows the old pattern of "part tool, part weapon" (clearly in use it will be all tool). It has a straight 20" handle and a heftyish head (never did weight it before I sent it on to topknot) I'd guess around 2lbs on the head.

The edge does not have a pronounced bevel but is a gradual convex.

I haven't used it it anger yet but its a ferocious splitter (one has to try it on a few logs after all). I would expect it to perform adequately in cross grain cutting but its a tough puppy - more splitter than chopper but with stonking edge retention.

Clearly the beard gives a lot of cutting edge for the weight which is an interesting feature.

Always wanted to play with a proper bearded axe so I'll let you know how it performs

In the words of "Highlander" bert - "there can be only one". Not a production piece this, just a kind gift from the master :)
