My dog got caught last week in an abandoned snare which had been there for some time and had tilted from the upright position. Luckily i was close to him before he panicked too much, he did pull the stake out which also stopped the wire tightening too much. Was able too remove it, no bleeding, but a £35 vets visit to make sure. Not impressed, with the wannabe Grizzly Adams who set the snare, and left it. In my opinion I think snares used on their own i.e without ferrets or a dog is like fishing with out bait, if anyone was serious about hunting a gun, catapult, ferrets or dog has got to be a better method with a greater success rate than a snare.
