I've heard lots of talk about the usefulness of small axes, or lack there of! I personally like to carry a small axe, but have larger ones at base camp when I know that I need to chop trees down ;)

So I made this little axe last week. What d'ya think of it?

Looks good!
How long and how heavy? Is there a reason that the eye does not have extensions to the rear?
I definitely like the fawn´s foot handle and what looks like a combination of long handle and lightweight head.

So cool - it needs a small hole in the fawns foot though - would make a lovely zip pull!

:lmao: :lmao: You must REALLY have been bored one day :lmao: :lmao:
but who cares! That is COOL!! :D

What wood did you use for the handle? The grain doesn't look that out of proportion the way it would with some timber.

:) thanks guys. I enjoy making mini knives from time to time (normally 1" blades, but all fully functional knives) and I've been meaning to do an axe for ages. The lack of enthusiasm for some of the work I have on led me to finally do it  That and the fact that I'm trying to get a few bits together for Knives 2007 (knifeshow in Bristol this year, 14th May ;) )

I've gone mini crazy this week. I have a mini socketed chisel (3mm wide, about 30mm plus handle long) and a mini drawknife (about 30mm blade) waiting to be heat treated and this morning I made a mini handsaw (48mm long blade). :D I'll put some pics up when they are all done

Obviously they are all for sale, but best keep that to pms ;)
