Last week one of my mate's asked me to make him a easy carry S.E.R.E kit as he was going on a weekend E&E course in afew weeks with his Rugby dudes.
I obviously asked what are you on about ? and yes there are Non Military courses apparently for well I'm not sure maybe weekend warriors, which is odd as he's previously enlisted.
Well here's 1 I made earlier he went for a different kit.

Contents are
1. 46'' piece of Kevlar Cordage with looped ends knots
1. Shim that's had afew small serrations cut into it.
1. Uni Handcuff key.
1. Small Ceramic Blade
1. Diamond File.
1. Silva Mini Compass ''Luminous''. which has marks on the case from being in another kit, But it's true and has Great Lume.
in a slip mini wallet thingy

Anyway I don't need the thing.
£25 posted PayPal Only.
Cheers

wHAT does SERE nean and E&E please. x

Random snippet of information:
Many military pilots, even ones from foreign countries, often carry a gold Sovereign coin or two in their SERE kit when flying behind enemy lines. The British gold Sovereign is universally recognised all around the world and can be used to bribe/pay people for things like food, shelter, transport, border crossings etc.

Try paying your shopping bill at Tesco's with it.

More useless information, the CIA reputedly wore the CIA bracelet. Links could be easily removed to bribe/pay people. No evidence exists if Tesco were willing to accept a link.

I think you may have missed the point here. Gold is not intended for regular day to purchases in your local super market. :)

A downed pilot behind enemy lines will be attempting to get back to safety using whatever S.E.R.E techniques are available to them. They may be able to find a helpful civilian who would be willing feed, shelter or transport them in exchange for a single small gold coin which is currently worth the equivalent of around £600 in value to them when they exchange it into their own local currency afterwards.

Put yourself in that civilians position for a moment. Would you be willing to give a stranger a single cheap meal or drive them a few miles down the road in exchange for something which is worth £600? Many would. Especially if they are poor and need the money.

I was part joking. Apologies.

There have been a spate of people trying to pay for Fuel and groceries at UK supermarkets with half and quarter sovereigns as in theory it IS legal uk currency - at least its classed as such.

They are trying to show a point reference what is money and what isnt.
I can't find any of the Youtube vids at the moment but mostly they end with the supermarket refusing to accept them ( as in their right ) and the Police being called to enforce their interpretation.

I agree - Gold would be a wonderful asset in a highly improbable flee type scenario.

## Although I'm not sure how much confidence I'd have in people ( UK and Abroad ) recognizing a Sovereign for what it is - Gold and shiny , Yes - but is it Gold? Which would lead to a potential conversation of trying to persuade them it does have inherent and significant value. Just check out FB Market place for dodgy looking Gold and Silver being sold. I'd need a Fisch to be completely confident

No worries. I should have spotted the joke lol. :)

I’ve read that apparently US pilots prefer to carry UK gold Sovereigns over any other type of gold coin because they deem them to be the most likely to be recognised anywhere in the world. They even prefer them over their own countries gold Eagle coins despite their Eagles actually having the word ‘gold’ printed on them along with the exact weight and purity of the coin.

I've read that Byzantine link chains were carried or worn by traders in centuries gone by because a single link could easily be removed with very simple tools. Anybody with a touchstone could assay the amount of gold in the alloy and weigh the link to find its value.
