Do many members here use Skype? A lot of the stove collectors are using it now as a free way to talk in 'real time'

We could swap skype user names via PM?

Yes, its brilliant. Use it to talk to wife every night when working away. Strange that when I'm away she talks for hours, when I get home............ not a word

I have to look into it as both my brothers use it. they also use another one with a camera thingy, it's got moving pictures and the like! Technology, what's it like eh?

:D

My Skype username is ashleycawley. Feel free to add me, please state your from BCUK. I have been using Skype and MSN for years, Skype is definatly superior! I just wish others I knew would move to Skype so I could drop MSN altogether and just use Skype.

That's interesting. I used to use Skype and went over to MSN.

I think Tony would have to set up another field in our personal preferences/user cp files where we could then add a Skype name.

We may have to draw up a code of conduct for acceptable use of Skype as I would guess a lot of members might not wish to be contacted on Skype by people they don't know unless it had been agreed beforehand by PM or in a thread.

Just checked! Actually there is a Skype name box on your user profile! You should be able to contact me if you click the little symbol next to the 'Y!' symbol just below my username. No idea if it works...

what is it please cos i dont have a clue
Its a free instant-messaging program that you can download. It lets you send messages over the internet to other Skype users. It also has VOIP, which basically allows you to place voice-calls over the internet to other Skype users completely free of charge, it can even handle video/webcams if you have one. You can also use it to phone landlines or mobiles by purchasing pre-paid credit if you wish. Skype is free to download at http://www.skype.com/

I use MSN daily both for work & personal however I really dont think it's as good as Skype. Just to name a couple of things I don't like about MSN; it's supported by advertisements and all messages are sent in plain-text across the internet, its possible for hackers to intercept any of your messages and syphon off any personal data, whereas Skype encrypts all your messages behind the scenes making it inherently more secure.
