Hi all,

My poor nan of 80+ suffers with terrible foot pain. This is partly due to having quite a few miles on the clock (she would belt me if she read this) and partly due to poor fitting shoes as a child and young adult. Add to this working on her feet even up until today and medical problems she is going to be a tough customer. She is certainly a tough character and shrewd as they come and sharp as a tack.

So in the past she has had a few pairs made for her but good fitting shoes and proper artisans seems to be harder to find.
The last bloke that made a pair for her took forever and messed her about to the point that I had to go pick them up my self and have a quiet word. Now i like to tinker my self so i know how long it can take to get goods made like this so that wasn't the case.

She also knows how much a hand made pair of shoes should cost so that will not be too much of a shock either. She has had various soles from the ortho clinic but they just dont cut it as its the actual shoe design that needs to provide the space.

So can any of you good folks point me in the right direction, preferably reasonably close so that a proper cast can be taken and a discussion take place? I am willing to travel.

Cheers all.

Hey Dwardo, I would have loved to help you out as a good mate of mine is a shoe making artisan, sadly he has something in common with me,
And that thing is he lives in Holland XD, hope you find yourself a decent cobbler, or is the word cordwain in this case?
Yours sincerely Ruud

I just ordered a pair of hiking boots from http://greenshoes.co.uk they have been a pleasure to work with so far and the prices are not so bad considering what some off the shelf shoes can end up costing. I asked them for flat soles, no heel rise and they said no problem they could do that at no extra cost. You do not need to visit them, just send off drawings of your feet and some measurements and they work from that. Postage is not bad either considering the weight of the boots. It may be not at all what you are looking for, but it states on the site that they charge extra for *orthapedically challenged feet* so it maybe worth giving them a call to discuss the situation with them.
