Indeed and when boys were boys and conker contests formed part of the autumn curriculum. That and winter ice slides, formed by a chain-gang of eager Junior boys with overflowing buckets, and then skated upon by all with prerequisite Blakey-encrusted shoes! Healthy & Safety my .....!

Back in 'day when i were a lad.

Good times. Fun times, No computers, Limited tv for kids,

Those were the days worth remembering. Gone the way of the Dodo now.

is it me or does he actually look no different whatsoever in that picture from what he does now?! Most boys are unrecognisable as adults.

I heard he quit because they didnt get out enough?

That's why I quit the scouts. They were just sitting around a campfire. I got a stern talking to whern I went up around my usual time (4-5 AM) and walked out in the woods looking for tracks and stuff, came back in time for breakfast. Since I wasn't more than 2-3 km away, and there was a stream I could follow to get back should I loose my way I could see no reason not to. Age 10 or 12, IIRC.

my scouts was rubbish too, we never went out doing stuf. we would go out lighting fires and cooking sausages about once ever 6 months. we just played alot or rounders and football and lernt knots we never had an opatunity to use. if i wanted to play football i would have joined the local football team:(

it all depends on the scout leaders i gess

My troop was the polar opposite as I recall,
It was the occasional weekend that was spent at home with no activity to attend, most had at least one thing going on. Come to think if it, the troop leaders and assistants seemed to have jobs that allowed them to take any number of days off to do Scouty things, hillwalking, climbing, caving inter-troop challenges, camps of all descriptions, canoeing - are the big ones I can remember.

I wouldn't be into the outdoors if i hadn't been - The leaders gave up so much of their free time to look after us tainee thugs - God bless em!:You_Rock_

When I was in Scouts, I lived in Grande Praire ( about 4 hrs away from Edmonton) Bush EVERYWHERE, where do we go on our BIG TRIP? Edmonton, million people, slept on a gymnasium floor in Scout HQ in Edmonton. Last year for me:rant:
