For a horse-riding friend, I am looking into saddle soap and what its worth for leather. Be it saddles etc or any other leather good as used for horse-riding etc.
So I thought I would ask here, since, well, you are british (or sort of) and considered to be a wee bit horse-addicted as a nation. When viewed from the other side of the channel, of course:)

The opinions on the web are inifinite, of course:
-it cleans the leather
-it has nothing to do with soap
-it was good way back in the 18th century but is obsolete now
-it contains glycerine
-it contains everthing else (neats foot oil etc)
-use it, its great
-forget about it.
etc

Now I dont count glycerine as a very good or the only ingredient for leather care. Beeswax, lanolin, the common ingredients are higher on my list. But most brands of saddle soap only claim "contains glycerine".
Cleaning leather would mean for me getting some of the dirt out of it, who accumulates in it through use. Is saddle soap a "better soap" for this purpose?
Are different brands also different regarding ingredients and usefulness?

Post your experiences and opinions, please!
