I have a pair of Matterhorn boots with Vibram sole that need resoling.
My question is,has anyone out there used Timpsons to resole their boots and are they any good?

Regards,
Andy

I have recently had a pair of Lowa boots and Britons resoles and refurbished. I use Avon services in Tidworth, because they are in a military town they are able to resole any issue boots and are very good at it (I am a very happy customer) although it does cost, but is cheaper than a new set of boots :)

I know that some Timpsons stores can resole military boots but some branches do not, so you would have to check and you need to confirm that they can supply military grade vibram soles as well. It is also down to individual cobbler and their experience. I do have a couple of other contacts for refurbishing and resole of boots and I will try and look them out for you. I know there used to be a good cobblers in the Whits shops at Catterick (used them before) so they may be able to help and maybe get in touch with John Bull's up there as well and they may be able to give you a heads up of good quality cobblers as well for military boots. Hope that helps

i had a vibram sole put on a pair of civvie lowas at my local Timpsons.
had to reglue around parts of the edge and toe myself after a couple of weeks.
the sole was quite expensive anyway, so i'd go with a more experienced cobbler if i was you.

I think I'd be inclined to take them to a more specialist cobbler.
Anything Technical in Kendal provide such a service. One of my friends had some done
and was very happy with the service.

There's a place in Burnley called Lancashire Shoe Repairs that do re-soles, of amongst other things fell running shoes. They seem very good, although of course there's the humiliation of having to go into Lancashire for something..!

Don't feel humiliated, it was such a long time ago, we've practically forgotten about it.:)

Timpson are awful, They only get a few weeks/days training. Compared to a traditional cobbler, which has at least a year apprenticeship. had to get my boots resoled at a Timpson once instead of my usual cobblers, they did an awful job and kept breaking constantly until I took them back to my regular cobblers.

I was asked by a mate to try and get his hanwags resoled locally, timpson said it was no problem getting the vibrams and re-soling, however they then asked where the boots were going, when I said they were going to the sandbox they got all twitchy and said they could garuntee everything but the glue used, which they doubted would take the heat. We didn't use them in the end.

Must admit that I had a pair of Loakes resoled at Timpsons recently & they did a very good job of it - stitched em too as well as glued. Looked the cobbler had done a few years in the trade though.
