I have spent quite a few days this year out of signal, in some ways it suits but in other ways I’d like an emergency back up.

I read the iPhone satellite message is not great, InReach pretty good and looks like an option!

Is there anything else, would Glocalme work or SIM card walkie talkies? Anything else I missed?

I could put a starlink in the car but if I made it back to the car despite it being fair bit off road I’d be petty safe anyway!

Any advice appreciated!

I guess what I want to ask is how far out of signal? There are some parts of the country where one can be out of signal quite easily but not actually that far from parts of civilization.

So are we talking many many miles from actual assistance if needed? or just some deep valley thats a bit off the beaten track?

Not sure tbh how far from signal, spent 18 hours on foot around the area and never had a signal once, drove a 4x4 in to the end of the track an walked from there, spent two days in there and plan to do the same this year!

Maybe a couple of miles on the tarmarc before going off road we had signal.

Maybe this sort of thing?
