Just had a pair of Merrell fail after very light wear and need to replace. Does a pair of boots or shoes exist that can be bought for around £80 that will last ? Need to be waterproof as they will be my dog walking footwear and used daily, not bothered about style or looks. Regatta, Karrimor, I have found to be poor quality as well.
Thanks

If you go onto the goarmy website they have loads of goretex military boots from new to distressed grade .i have bought 2 different styles of haix for pennies and wear them every day .fantastic boots .
Did the merrells wear out inside at the heal ?

Cheers will look on goarmy. The Merrels sole came away from the upper.

I guess it depends on your own feet! I had a pair of Aku pilgrims. The lower leg non gortex ones, I found them to be really narrow, with a shape that did not work for me, and the sole unit was over stiff and very slippy in the wet.

I got some German army goretex boots for about seventy quid grade 1.
Second pair now and I got about eighteen months out of the last pair at maybe two thousand miles or more?
The dog catches frisbee and my wife also takes him out when I'm at work so likely does a load more miles.

Hard to buy footwear online unless you’ve some idea of the actual fit, maybe though experience. The Karrimor boots/shoes can be alright but each fecking pair fits differently and the waterproofing isn’t great in my experience, soles are thin too, but for the price can be alright esp when you’ve got what appears to be weird feet (Metatarsalgia) when trying virtually anything on. Merrils I’ve found to be deficient - not always warm enough and they’re not as durable as the price might suggest, found this myself, so did my other half. The old go to of German para boots is getting to be an expensive option these days, which is a pity.

eBay and Vinted have also been successful for me in getting second pairs of kit when I've found myself wanting a second item where I've already found the first one to be just right - boots / hiking trs, etc. This bypasses guesswork that I've got the right item, as I already know it works. I browse / set up notification alerts so that when another one comes along at a price point I'm happy to pay I can bag it. I got a pair of Lowa Renegade Goretex boots (RRP £215), second hand for £60 in barely used condition. I knew the size and fit would be perfect, and I've just given them a clean and a new set of insoles, and they're practically new. Having the second pair will halve the workload off the existing pair I've got so I don't end up destroying one pair. I've done similar for hiking trs too. It does mean having to potentially wait, but at least you know what you're getting and that it should fit like a glove.

Maybe it is just the luck of the draw but do not neglect charity shops, I have a pair of Mk1 Brasher GTX (the original and the best) and a pair of Timberland boots from charity shops, neither have worn out or needed resoling yet. With charity shops you just have to visit frequently and keep looking, eventually you will get lucky unless you are a very odd size.

Just adding to my post, if they are worn somewhat they have proved their worth rather than a pair that has been worn once and discarded.
