Last year some of the lads in our Explorer unit decided to take a raft trip down the River Camel... home-made rafts, no campsites and definately no supermarket trips.
The brief was:
- build and launch two rafts with space for 7 people
- spend 3 days paddling the River Camel
- all food and water to be carried on the rafts
- wild camping on the banks of the river... no tents allowed!
- Don't Get Caught!!
Proper Boys-Own Adventure stuff... all their own idea and planned / equipped with minimal advice from us adults.

The vids are made by 17 y/old lads so they are probably not work-safe (bit of salty language when the bindings gave out!) but it's worth a watch to reassure yourselves that there are still kids around who are willing to get out there and enjoy the great outdoors away from the comforts of home.
(It's also worth pointing out that neither BCUK nor the Scout Association condone illegal trespass
