Not that I am making knives, but what is the best way to finish maple handled knives? I have one I was given a while back, and its just sat there, not doing anything, but it was unfinished (no oil or anything) and was wondering what is the best way to go forward. I have polished the blade up using my whetstones so that's nice and sharp, but really want to get a good finish on the wood. As it isn't full tang (tang sits inside the wood), I may even re-handle the knife myself with some local maple, however like I said, just curious what is best to use with it if I either replace the handle or keep the one I have.

Thank you :) I may re-handle the knife with local maple, depends on my time constraints, but I'll definitely go get some ronseal (screwfix is down the road from me).
