I have a pump drill that I ordered from someone off the internet but I noticed a big problem for me was the little piece of spindle was tied in with sinew & required some delicate knot tying which I promptly screwed up resulting in me breaking the spindle so I upgraded it with a keyless chuck. now I can use any thickness or piece of wood in a few seconds making it really fast, reliable, fun way of getting a coal (my four year old loves it).
I think the biggest problem with the pump drill is its size. Way too big to be packing about for the weekend but one hell of alot easier (for me) than using a handrill or even a regular bow drill.
Let me know your thoughts!
