Hi guys.

That is a Poplar Hawk moth.

We had a moth trap in our garden two weeks ago and we had 105 different species and we had four Poplars in the trap - you can't believe that they can fly with a wing pattern like that.

We also had half a dozen Privet Hawks moths in the trap as well - and here is one of them on my face - a real beauty (talking about the moth).

We had one of those around the house a few nights ago, it stopped next to the computer while I googled an ID!
It was HUGE , at first look we thought its wings had been chewed by the dog, apparently they sit with the front wings behind the back. I have seen a few more, presuming it is the same species, flying around the back garden and at first mistook them for bats, they really are that big!
