Hello again ... just a quick request, what's the best way to bang in metal tentpegs? Will a mallet be okay or should I use my bootsole or a rock or what. Cheers ...

Depending on the type of peg, I would lean towards a mallet (so you can see what effect your having easily). A lot of pegs (from my experience) bend if thumped any old how.

I gently but press the sole of my footed boot against a 45 degree angled peg. holding the peg with my fingers for stability, I lean my weight gently forward through my foot along the line of the peg. If a little stone gets in the way then a little wiggle of the peg gets around it. No bent pegs so far. A mallet is also a good choice if weight was not an issue.

If you're using good V pegs then put one across the top to form a T then push with the heel of your hand and they will slip into anything but the hardest ground.

ARGH metal pegs. don't like them anymore. they bend, are pretty unreliable, cost a bit to replace, get lost, pollute and weigh me down. I just sharpen some sticks when i get to my site and push them in with my foot. Then, when i strike camp i either burn them or return them to nature. simples!
