Hello all , especially Admins ,
I could well be looking at putting some of my edged tools / knives up for sale on Bushcraft UK but just need some advice as to what is or isnt allowed to be posted these days within the UK in regards to the above ? I would hate to post either by the post office or courier only to find it could be confiscated ! so any advice appreciated .

With regards to royal mail. You need to label the package as a bladed article making sure any sharp bits are protected. It also needs to be sent via the age verification system. This costs around £6.40 for 48 hour delivery or £7.07 for 24 hour delivery

Just make sure you're not offering up for sale any switchblades/automatics, balisongs, punch daggers, disguised knives etc. Almost everything else is basically fine, but there are plenty of us on here who can have a look at the photos and advise if it's not suitable for sale. There's the new Zombie knife legislation that's going to be taking effect soon, but that honestly is so stupidly worded that it's better to judge from photos rather than a written description.

The Royal Mail wording is also concerningly blurry, with their catch-all of 'and similar' and currently no appeals process. Where abouts in the UK are you based? It seems the packages requiring a flight may be the most at risk of Royal Mail's incorrect classification of knives, but that's just anecdotal.

Pack them as required, Post them as required and you won’t have any problem. As long as the tools are legal to own in the UK you can post them.

Sorry to come back late to my initial thread but due to personal health and family problems Ive had to put things on hold . Can I ask is it ok to open a normal thread again showing photos of what I intend to sell and if any members need to know the finer detrails then I can willingly do so or they could even PM me , if that is allowed ? As Ive been a member since 2016 I still seem to be having difficulty posting on the classified edged tools section ?
Thanks

Hello,
Sorry to hear your health hasn’t improved.

I am afraid to say that it is not okay to do what you are asking.

If the last few months have been rough, you might not remember that we have talked about this subject already. You contacted me by direct message on 10 June. I shared the link for you to upgrade your membership to a paid membership and I shared all the rules about selling, and other related info. Your last post lead me to believe that you hadn’t realised you needed a paid membership, but that you then understood.

Here is the upgrade link again.

  • A paid membership is REQUIRED in order to post up items for sale.
  • Selling can only be done via the Classified forums. The reason you have been unable to post in Classifieds is that you do not have a paid membership.
  • No threads, or photos of items planned for sale permitted anywhere else.
  • No testing the waters with photos or descriptions to help decide to take a paid membership.
  • It doesn’t matter how long you have been a member, or if you had paid membership in the past, a current paid membership is required to make new posts selling stuff.

Either Full Member £15 for a year, or Classifieds Only £10 for one month. I recommend the Full Membership since it takes pressure off for getting everything posted within such a limited time. Also, Full membership allows you to post images directly to the forum, no external photo hosting site needed, which is handy for posting stuff for sale.

I hope this is all clear. If you have any problems, let us know.

Best of luck
Chris

No trouble. I have friends dealing with serious health and family problems and it messes with memory and processing, especially the abstract tech related stuff.
All the best
Chris

If you have any questions about the actual legality of any of the knives, then I would happily have a look if you wanted to send a pic either by PM, email, WhatsApp. Whichever is easiest. I’m not in the market for anything at all in terms of knives just in case anyone thinks I’m after a preview ;)

To be honest, it’s fairly straightforward to pull up a list from the Gov.com website, but if it makes things easier for you after or during a period of ill health then drop me a message.

I dare say Chris or Hugh Trimble would offer to do the same.
