Becuase this is a board where people ask questions and other people provide their thoughts?! It's up to the OP how he much he takes on of what people write.

True poncho, but common sense goes out the window with some of the answers, my TB infected my lungs, knee and spine so I could have said "blooming heck you may have TB in the knee". For all we know the OP could be the gullible or sensitive type who takes it all on board reads some replies and throws an anxiety attack.

Look for the simple and obvious answers, see if the pain and swelling goes, if not go to your GP.

Pauel if you followed my self-supported pennine way walk training thread you'll notice I developed an injury on my right foot... just some bruising to the matatarsal tissue however it took nearly 2 months to fully heal and I had to pretty much rest it completely and stop walking on it as soon as the pain began. I also cut out all wheat and dairy from my diet to eliminate the inflammatory effects of these foods and basically lived on meat and vegetables with lots of bone marrow stock made from real cow bones boiled for 12 hours. The collagen and other nutrients helped repair the soft tissue damage. It's all about rest, stretching and diet. I also recommend a foam roller, they really work.

Hi Folks
Just had another though - as the knee pain was only on descent - however, there were 4 uphill peaks we did and 3 down hill but had been walking for 3 miles with a slow incline - althogh the pain was on the way down that started definately by the second descent, maybe towards the end of teh first one, so suspicious now if it is the descent that has triggered whatever has gone on with my knee which was only evident on tehdescent or has teh uphill actually done the problem but manifested itself on the downhill. I know some people have mention quad strain. My legs were heavy on teh way up and had to stop a few times just usual short of breath up a massive hill mountain and legs becoming heavy - 30 second stop and off we went again until legs dead

Thansk All

Recent tests showed a glass of milk a day goes a long way to repairing muscle damage, perhaps try that AND real medical advice before reaching for the stock pot.

Sounds like you're allergic to walking down hill. It's a common complaint and will only get worse. People think that sticks are the answer, but they are only half right. Forever more, the only way to stop it getting worse is to either only walk uphill or on the level or when walking downhill, leaning forward so much using sticks, that the ground angle makes your body feel like it's going uphill.

I am a certified armchair physician so this advice is totally sane and worth more than any words spoken by a paid professional. :D

Drinking pasturized homogenized milk actually causes osteoporosis not to mention various other ailments. Raw milk is quite different however it is still not a quality food source. The calcium myth is like the cholesterol and fat myth... a myth. People forget too much calcium calcifies the body and everything becomes brittle and delicate, no one ever talks about magnesium and how without it the body cannot assimilate just about every other mineral... including calcium... which is best sourced from leafy green veggies and NOT dairy!

Ahh thanks folks for the advice and armchair physician.lol i like the allergy it on goin downhills.
Wish i was a bird and could fly up then!
Confusing...milk or no milk...so what about beer then :)

Hey guys
No neer for anyone to argue or fall out. For me, im really grateful that you have taken time to respond to thoughts ideas of why i had knee pain and advice
Cheers

I've been having knee problems on and off for a year or so. The only advice I can offer is to keep a knee support in your pack. I've just got the compressive tube types which really help to stop the problem getting worse. If I get a twinge or I think I'm going to have a problem I chuck it on anyway and, touch wood, it's kept me going so far.

On the milk issue, saw a programme a while ago that took half a rugby squad and had them drink milk rather than the "isotonic" variety to rehydrate/recover from full-on training sessions. Despite huge scepticism from the lads (down in Cornwall if I recollect correctly), they found that they recovered twice as quickly from aches and pains etc on milk than they did on the isotonics.

...and because I am more ignorant than the rest of you, my advice is the soundest.............

I think any foodstuff would help you recover more effectively than isotonics that are nothing more than sugary syrup junk with a pinch of minerals added so they can market them as good for you!
