Parachute canopy

Haven't been on here for a looking time, but still read from time to time.

After some advice please.
I have a British army parachute LLP.
I don't know the material, but it's light weight and I have seen these used as canopies with fires underneath.
Are these very flame or heat retardant and for those using them is there a suggested height above a camp fire to limit damage.

They're not particularly flame or heat retardant as the're made from manmade materials.

As for a safe hieght, pitch it so the edge of the chute is head height and that'll make sure the peak is plenty high enough over the fire to be safe

That and you reduce the garroting at night time....

And the smoke level is above sitting head height

All the above.
The idea is the chute will hold enough smoke inside it that when sparks rise they are smothered which helps too.
It's not just the material itself but also the way it's set up
