Here's a tip that was given to me and it works!
If, like me, your boots sometimes rub the back of your heel (I have a bony right heel - ALL boots rub me - it's nothing to do with buying boots that fit well so much as an ill-fitting heel), then instead of wearing just one thick pair of socks, wear two thin pairs instead.
The dual layer not only keeps your feet warm, but it means that what rubs together is the material of the socks rather than the back of your heel.
This is the kind of thing that I bet everyone else already knew, except me.

been doing it since i was 12 with boots on, have done a few 50 milers in my time and i just get hot/pressure spots......

jobs a fish.......

thanks for telling all though...

I once saw some endurance racers using duct/gaffa tape to protect their feet.
The tape would definitely protect the skin from friction and some pressure but not from impact.
It may be worth a try but I don't know how long the tape will adhere to increasingly sweaty feet.
Happy trails...torc.

I've put zinc oxide tape over hotspots before and it stopped it becoming a blister and I had no problems with it coming off due to sweating.

totally know where you are coming from. The first time I ever got to the Brecons and I got this in the first couple of miles!

To protect the innocent, I'm not in the picture.

That's why you need to get a pair of lady's nylon's knee high's under socks and they keep you warmer too...

Very true.
Many anglers were women's tights in the winter to keep warm.
And wear stockings in the summer months because it keeps you fresher and cooler...

I wear 1000 Mile brand walking socks, which are effectively the same thing just in a single unit. They have a thin inner sock made of wicking material which fits close to the foot, and then a thicker outer sock which provides warmth and cusioning, which are then joined at the top. Idea is that the two parts move separately so you don't get blisters. They used to offer your money back if you got blisters within 1000 miles of use, but not sure if that's still the case.

I wear them for all my long walks now and I never have problems with blisters, so might be worth a try.

Double socks, always worked with my issue assault boots, if i wore a single layer i ended up with serious hotspots on the achillies, and on the front and by my large toe.

anyways i thought wearing tights was an old soldiers tip for stag on cold nights?
