Night out in the woods

I am really eager to get out there over the next few weeks.

I have gone out and purchased some basic bits of kit, but i just don't know where i can pitch up! Does anyone know of anywhere i can explore and find a scenic spot to spend the night? (The fact that you cant legally have a camp fire in most weeds/forests doesn't concern me as it'll be completely safe, and extinguished when i leave) Thanks all

I doubt you will get any recommendations on that due to infringing website policy in regards to encouraging folks to break the law, best of luck with your plans to get out there, it's sadly a case of finding landowners and getting permission and it is not often as easy as it sounds and even when you find the owners they have no obligation to allow you, good tip is when asking do not mention bushcraft, you want to backpack through the area and whilst travelling through wish to set camp etc, bushcraft seems to be getting a dubious reputation with landowners sadly.

Use Google earth and bing maps. I'm also looking for my first stealth spot, so I've been looking at the land around me and going on walks to scope out the areas.

When I get there I look at entry and exit points, look around for signs of human / ned activity. Look for foot and dog prints. If I see rubish I check use by dates to get an idea of when someone was here.

Went out yesterday and found a couple of spots within walking distance of home.

If you find a large enough woodland and not a lot of human activity around and assuming there is no land owner around to ask the question? then if you go into the woodland late afternoon early evening depending on what time of the year it is due to getting dark early, then you should be ok to go set up camp for the night as long as you leave the site as you found it, the other option go down to Dartmoor for a long weekend there are plenty of areas to go wild camping and you shouldn't encounter any problems.

Last time I asked a landowners permission a few days in advance we arrived to find he'd built us a fire pit, made a small starter fire that just needed lit and dumped a pile of wood for us to burn. Even left us 2pints of milk in the stream near by!!

Nope, just a wood that was on a farmers land! Was quite annoying actually as the chap had said he'd let us do our own thing, have a fire ect. Was quite looking forward to just getting on with it!

OP, do your checks via google maps or walking the footpaths then seek the landowners permission

That was a result, I bet there's not many Landowners that would do that for you!
