Sunday was absolutely hammering it down, so as we strange folk do, I excitedly packed my bag and headed out into the woods with my dog. We were out the door by 0700 to make the most of the day, and I wanted to go on a decent walk after breakfast and before the thunderstorm rolled in.
First job: Up goes the tarp.

Trangia assembled and lit in a needlessly complicated way? Check.

I used the little Trangia strainer/cutting board accessory you can buy seperately for it, so I don't have to cart around a chopping board in addition to the Trangia. Although the Woodlander is a scandi grind and not good for fine dicing, this was all a rough chop so absolutely fine.

As the Germans would say: Das ist reet nice.

I don't know if it's supposed to have avocado in it, in fact I doubt it. But there were some for 50p at Co-op as they were just overripe. Rude not to.
After packing up we headed out for our walk. We ended up doing about 5 miles, nothing too taxing, but it was a lovely way to spend a rainy woodland day. The smells, sounds and sights of a wet summer woodland are unbeatable, I reckon. Listening to rain hitting your tarp and then when the rain dies down for a few moments, the birds coming back to life. Lovely stuff.
I think Finn enjoyed himself, anyway:

Recipe for Shakshuka is as follows:
1 small onion (diced)
0.5 red pepper (bell pepper for Freedomists)
2 cloves of garlic
200g tinned chopped tomato
2x eggs (hen, not dog)
Small avocado
0.25 tsp smoked paprika
0.25 tsp cumin
0.25 tsp hot chilli powder
Salt
Black pepper
Coriander, chopped to garnish
1 tbsp olive oil
Method: Fry the diced onion and red pepper in oil until softened. Add chopped garlic and spices. Fry for about 30 seconds. Add tinned tomatoes and simmer until warmed through and slightly reduced. Put eggs in for approx 4-5 mins to poach in the tomato (add more water if necessary). Once eggs are done to your liking, add salt and pepper, add sliced avocado and garnish with coriander. Stuff it in your pie hole.
