There is a new TV show about Robinson Crusoe being show in the States at the Moment.

This is Friday's bow -

Any ideas?

Never seen anything like this before, but if it works it would seem to be a way to make a bow from small thicknesses.

It looks like a Penobscot bow. The idea is that with two bows, the draw weight of the bow is adjustable by adjusting the lengths of the string connecting the two bows. I'm not sure if it has additional benefits, possibly someone else could shed some light on this . . .

Hope this helps!

Pete

PS: I THINK that's the main idea, I'm not entirely sure. I've heard it described as an early compound bow idea. I assumed that this was referring to the adjustable draw weight, but I always thought it'd be a rather quick bow, too.

wasnt Friday boy born on pitcairn, son of fletcher christian after the mutiny on the bounty?

Wouldn't have thought so. 'Robinson Crusoe' is a fictional story (admittedly based on the true story of Alexander Selkirk), and Friday is an entirely fictional addition. More importantly, 'Robinson Crusoe' was written 60 odd years BEFORE the mutiny on the Bounty. So, no - he wasn't. Nice thought though.

It is a Scientifically Enhanced, made for TV show  version of the Penobscot Indian bow. The original looks a lot better, IMO! You can adjust the draw weight of the bow by twisting the cables between the two bows, it also can help to reduce string follow and is also apparently quite stable.

So you twist the strings between the two bows, and get a stronger draw weight. Nice.
