Grass snakes are great. Until they skunk all over you. This one was massive. At least six feet long. It must have dropped 1/4 pint of skunk all over me. That’s why there are loads of flies. Not even two showers could get that stink off me. Well worth it though to find such a huge specimen.

I use catch eels like that as a boy the eel is in huge decline now unfortunately

Same here. It’s rare now that I come across someone that’s caught one. I haven’t in two decades.

Did u ever eat eel there good if caught from streams I wouldn't eat them now there to rare

We used to do eels when I was young, only a few times but they were easy to get hold of etc. I seem to recall they tasted fine, although no real memory of it, Jellied eels and mashed potatoes!

There not the best jellied there best smoked I think then there better than kippers ,heard the skin is good bowdrill cordage but I hadn't tried manzes in South London still does them stewed or jellies just down from London bridge about 500metres down on right
