Hi tom,

I've seen a few on evilbay but they are going for silly money, £300 plus, considering the SWMBO got my micarta handled WS for £95 brand new. I think a few have been sold on BCUK but you have to be quick as they dont last long before they are sold. I dont have an F1 but have heared good things about them, hopefully someone withone can give you a better heads up on them, hope that helps a bit mate,

Hi there and welcome to the forum

If you're going for a new outdoor type knife then yes go for a F1 blank and put your own handle on it. Also consider a look on here http://www.shingcrafts.co.uk
There are kits on there and a fancy one of those for myself :)

I'd forget about any woodlore knife at the moment. They do pop up on here occasionly but go VERY quickly. If you see any on evil-bay don't expect much change out of £400 they are going for stupid money.

There are many knives out there that are just as good (if not better) and an awful lot cheaper.

That my opinion, i'm sure others will follow

Good luck

Welcome to the forums :D

Normally I would suggest you have a look at British Blades. As people have said, the WS woodlore is over priced and there are many very useable knives around.

For the money the knives carried on http://www.thetradingpost.co.uk/ are hard to beat. The various versions of the Lapp Puukko both the MK and J lines are very good. Also, they are lighter knives and the narrow tang alows you to reshape the handle if if happens to be a bit on the big side.

However, you won't be old enough to register on British Blades for another few years yet. The same goes for buying any knives off your own bat. If you can get your folks to do the buying, then I would still recommend the Trading Post stuff.

EKA also do a very good Woodlore style of Bushy knife, and at a shade over £50 you can't go wrong.

The WS Woody is now becoming a collectors thing, and I doubt many will see the woods ever again :( , if they were still £95 -£110 then I'd highly recommend them, but at over £300, I'd rather get a custom off Alan Wood and wait. There is talk though, that Woodlore will once again be producing a 'factory' version of the Woody, so it may be worth contacting them by phone (emails don't get replied too), they should have found a maker by now, surely. It's been a year since they anounced this.

Nah stuff that.................

I got my WS woody a couple of years back. It always has and will continue to be used for what it was intended for.

It still cleans up ok, it does get well looked after with linseed on the handle and stroped to a mirror finish on the cutting edge (thanks for the advice British Red!)

I can't imagine e-baying mine off no matter how much it would fetch.

I got mine from Steve (SWC) and its great. I'll reccommend his work every time.
Service, extras and instructions are top class - really pleased with the whole thing - you won't be dissapointed if you take that route.

Can't post photos from work but if you have a look around at some of the threads including his website addy and my username, you'll find it.....

hang on a tick....

If youre keen on making one yourself from scratch (ish) then have a look on the Brisa website http://www.brisa.fi/start3.html there is everything you need at whatever price you care to pay. All the blades are excellant quality as are the handle material there are some ready assembled kits as well as some really good tutorials. Have a good look

All the above are good suggestions.

The Grohmann boat knife is another alternative. About £31 delivered from Canada.

Hi mate, you can get Vulcanised fibre (you have to cut it yourself to size) from Brisa, there is a link in nickg's post above.

Tubing you can get from model shops (you'll need quarter inch for an F1).

Corby bolts are a more difficult thing to get hold of and I don't know anywhere currently that stocks them in the UK (Joe at extreme outdoor gear used to have them).

Other options are cutlers rivets, mosaic pins and straight forward metal bar, ask falcon what he used on his F1 (you won't be able to use 1/4 inch mosaics as they won't fit, I had to re-drill the handle on my F1).

The correct size for the F1 holes are 5.5mm for your pins and 6.5mm for the lanyard hole. You tend to find that tube and bar are sold in old metric measurements. the bar for pins would be 7/32's of an inch and the tube for the lanyard would be 1/4 inch.

I hope this will be of help
