Hi all. I'm in the market for some new walking boots. They've got to be up to winter walking and I don't like boots to be too low cut. All advice greatly accepted. If there is another topic on this, I apologize.

Thanks everyone.

I swear by my Lundhags forest boots. They're great, high, pretty darn water proof but breathe so well because of the leather upper. With wool socks and miles on them I've not had a sweaty or a wet foot to date! Can't beat them I don't think. Obviously if you go walking through deep water you'll get wet but for small necks and splashes from puddles they hold out the water great. They are just leather so you wear as much insulation as you need- good for a summer and winter boot, they will most likely dry out quicker too. Hope this helps :).

Another vote for Lundhags, I bought the Ranger Highs in 2009, they're still as good as the day I bought them.

Sports Pursuit had them at just about half price a few months back, not sure if they still have them though

I had mine made to measure by Altberg because I have extremely wide feet and I wanted a higher cut boot when those were almost impossible to find on the market, but they do the same basic design in an off the peg version. I have literally worn out 2 pairs, they are very comfortable and practical.

I have a pair of Jack Pyke Hunter boots and they are great.
Very comfy, i can walk for miles when hunting of when im carrying my bergen camping and never had problems. Plus they are waterproof still after a year of wear and tear and just generally very good for the price.

I'm in my Lundhags right now, just been out for a walk with the dogs. I really like them but wouldn't ever beat Meindls for the Mountains as they are a much better fit for the steep hills. You cannot get the right boots if you don't try them on I'm afraid. I really wish I had never sold my old big black army Lowas.

I use a pair of Lowa Desert boots in the summer and a pair of Crispi boots in the winter or wet weather. Both boots are great no complaints from me.

I have never used Lundhags but they do look good and have been around since 1932 and have a good rep, but I have used Lowa and Altberg and have loved both makes. Meindl are another brand with a good reputation.

I have a pair of Hanwag Grünten that I am very happy with. They are leather inside and out. No goretex that only breaks before the boot does anyway and Goodyear welted sole which makes it replaceable when it's worn down. Finally they are much lighter than my old Meindls.

I hated my meindls. They rotted after a few months only. And after 6 months the rubber lip on the leather (just above the sole) started cracking. Their distributor wouldn't replace them or give me a refund. Not impressed. They were stiff as downhill skiing boots as well.

My lundhags are still going strong after 8 years. I used to be a heavy user. Nowadays considerably less.
