It's great for opening bottles and tins but too thin to use as a pry bar. Works OK as a screwdriver but not as well as the separate openers on other SAKs

Does anyone have any experience of the Victorinox Bantam? The single blade and can/bottle opener combo sounds really interesting for a lightweight option, but I'm wondering how well the can opener holds up to use?

I see no reason why the bottle/can opener shouldn't last as much as on any other Victorinox SAK but mine hardly ever gets used if I'm honest (the can opener that is). I would think, in order of most use, would be 1) scissors, 2) blade, 3) wood saw - hence my interest in the Farmer X

Which version of the bantam alox or plastic?

If considering the alox version would suggest an alox cadet, as roughly same price (on Amazon) and get the standard bottle and can opener, together with a nail file.

yeah, I know what you mean, I'm usually the same. I was just thinking of getting one that isn't as big as a full-blown SAK (which is what I secretly always want) but have a few things that would weigh much more on it's own or that I rarely pack. I usually bring a small pair of scissors, so not worth having to carry things like corkscrews etc that I never use. Trying to be sensible here! :D Although the Walker looks nice too.

Not sure, was thinking of the red one as cheaper. Is there any difference in weight at all?

Plastic Bantam is 33g
Alox Bantam is 29g, but also doesn't have a toothpick and tweezers of the regular plastic Bantam.

I think £53 is a bit steep just for the scissors (as much as I want one!) Hopefully as other places start to stock them the price will come down...think I'll be sticking to my farmer til then :)

I received mine on Friday. I like the added thickness which makes it more comfortable to use. The greatest thing about it, though, is the knowledge that I now have an alox s.a.k. which has all the tools I need and use and none that I don't. Pleased? I'm blooming delighted with it!

Hmm, do I buy the silver one or do I wait for a red one.
I really like the look of my red farmer, but missing the scissors.

Can somebody make a comparison photo off the thickness: farmer vs farmer X.
