As Broch says, free online... same for Kepharts 'Camping and woodcraft' If something is over a certain age (95 years since publication AFAIK) it becomes public domain.

I honestly didn't know that.

But Unfortunately I don't have a Kindle or the like.
You have a phone, or a computer, or we wouldn't be having this conversation.:)

Just click the link i posted above, and search for what you want to find.

I dunno, I read Horace Kephart's book some fifty years past having borrowed it from Birmingham public library, I do have paperback copy these days I got from some discount stall, probably in Birmingham too.

As per comments above, 'Camping and Woodcraft' is the book to have. A fascinating read and one that you'll find yourself returning to. The free download is great, but there is nothing better than having an actual book to peruse. You can get copies relatively cheap on ebay. I picked up a second hand copy a few months ago for £6.95.

Dunno, I’ve never read it. I’d guess it’s just the cover (probably fits in with a publishers ‘special’ series)
And
Maybe an extra forward for the edition. I doubt that the main text is changed.

From the Amazon link (it all sounds a bit complicated!)

This is the original handbook from the master of outdoors instruction. In this deluxe Legacy Edition reprint of the first version of Kephart's masterwork (in its final fifth edition printing), learn all of the essential, but often forgotten skills of classic camping and outdoors travel, including camping, camp cookery, clothing, hiking and wayfinding, outdoors gear and outfits, beating bugs and the elements, handling emergency situations, woods tools and axemanship, catching your dinner by hunting and fishing, and tanning skins and pelts.

This first version of this book (in its final fifth edition, printed 1912) is the shorter, more concise publication compared to Kephart's later expansion of this work, called Camping and Woodcraft from 1916-1917 (over 800 pages total sold as two volumes). Note: This printing is of the fifth edition of the first version (1912), not the first edition (1906). It has been expanded by the author from the previous four editions.

Have you read 'Wildwood Wisdom' by Ellsworth Jaeger? It's a little later (1945 I think) but has far more 'how to' information in it. It also makes you realise there's nothing new in this game - bow drill, hand drill, plough fire starting, canoe building, shelter building, edible wild foods, and many more primitive skills, long before RM was even a twinkle in someone's eye :)
