Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

Not once, ever, have I had a fixed blade shut on my finger. Nor have I ever worried about the lock failing.
I have never worried about contaminants getting into 'the works' of a fixed blade where I couldn't simply wipe or wash them off.
"Need" and "Want" are very different things. When I'm out and about I 'want' a fixed blade, but can make-do with a folder if needed.
