Hey all i just bought myself the DD travel Hammock and tarp so im waiting for it to arrive but reading post and seeing pics i see Karabiners are widley used in setups, so it got me thinking dose the hammock and tarp come with everything i need to set it up or is their extra i need that i dont know about. its my first Hammock so im clueless please help.

btw i got a great deal look here you get to chose the Hammock you want frontline or travel i also got the underblanket http://www.ddhammocks.com/products/rucksacks/pack-full

Morning Karl82, You will get everything you need to go out and sleep in your hammock, I would suggest adding some drip lines to the webbing straps to help draw water away from you hammock if out in the rain, as you go on you may well start to mod it with crabs and slings, im sure the guys will be more than egre to discuss the world of hammocks, Have fun Matey,

hiya carl now then a piece of advice

as southey has suggested you will require drip lines or somthing to stop the rain getting ti your hammock now my advice is to use crabs cos they work and drip lines are not 100% garenteed to work. so http://www.naturalbushcraft.co.uk/shelter/how-to-set-up-use-a-hammock-video-guide-to-hammocking.html

that link will show you a video of all the things you need to know about hammocking now also on this site is a artical on how to do the crab mod but you will have to search for it

Once you've set it up and used it a couple of times, you'll come up with your own personal ways of modding it. It's a personal thing and you'll soon find ways to improve and quicken the set up once you've had a mess with it a few times.

Our scouts use the camping and scout hammocks. We've got a couple of normal DD tarps which are OK, but I recommend the XL. We've not used anything other than standard kit, not even drip lines.

Or a £5 B&Q builders tarp does the same job... just noisier in high winds.

You'll get all you need Karl (apart from tent pegs obviously).

The only real mod I have made is to the slings. I now use some webbing, with 2 on each of the slings. This acts a bit like the belay rings in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iJTjful66M). I have also used figure of 8's at each end but they are not as versatile. People will say adding 4 crabs to the kit adds unnecessary weght - but I find the crabs invaluable for all manner of applications. Even if I was a ground dweller i'd have crabs in my sack (ooh eer misses).

But ultimately, it comes down to personal preference. You can just lash to a tree with knots at the end of the day - whatever floats your boat! Youtube hammock knots

Cheers
