Hi there,

I am looking for a smaller scandi knife for mostly neck carry. I want something discreet for when walking with the dogs in the woods or backpacking. It will be a regular user. Mostly it will be used for wood when out in the woods but I want it strong enough and preferably with a pommel.
I am not looking for a tiny knife but something with a blade between 3 and 4 inches. I am thinking of carbon steel but good quality stainless is OK.
I have looked at the Mora 510 but would like something a bit more substantial with a pommel for light battonning.
The little iissakki lapp puukko looks really good as well.

This will realistically be my most used knife.

Any experience with those knives?

Any advice?

Help me out here list: pommel; what part of the knife was that again (sorry english is not my first language and sometimes I just draw a blank)... iirc a pommel is like a guard for protecting your hand/fingers wasn't it?

The 510 Mora has a small (neglectable) pommel but it never stopped me from batoning with it. As a matter of fact that is what I have as my back up knife around my neck.

True... I broke my first Mora (a #40 with fingerguards sawed off) after really too much abuse. After replacing them my number 1 knife is a mora 137 and the back up is a 510...

No experience (yet?) with the other knives you mentioned...

Try Shep on BB. I have a small bushy of his which hangs really well on a braided paracord either round the neck or in an armpit! (sounds disgusting but is very discreet and comfy!)
I have a fastex buckle included so can release it very quickly!
Just a suggestion, mind you!

Sorry, my mistake. By pommel I mean the butt cap so that I can tap the end of the knife sometimes.

I would love to get a custom but I just dont have the cash right now.

You might find it easier to just get a full tang knife. I have a full-tang neck knife that had a handle slightly too large, so I used a saw and file to remove a bit of the handle scales at the butt, leaving a bit of bare tang - this enables me to batton the knife point-first without hitting the scales with the batton and risking breaking them or damaging the bolts, and it's plenty strong enough - just a suggestion :)

The banks of the Deveron.
Lapplander 90. This seems to fit the bill perfectly, have a look at my signature. There are loads of things you can do with and without brass bolster.

You can get them from the goodstuff shop.
