Munro Side Pockets

Afternoon all

Has anyone got any info/experience of the Munro Side Pockets?

I can get them for not much dollar but I'd like to know a bit more about them before I click 'buy'

ie What capacity are they; how do they attach (they won't be going on a Munro); how they close up tra ta ta.

They look smaller than PLCE (that's ok) but images and info seems a bit scarce on the Interweb.

Hi, Here's a couple of pics that might help.

Here compared to a PLCE side pouch also shows the zip closure:

And here's a pic of the back showing how it's attached:

Don't know the capacity ,sorry. I would say they're made from Cordura and the back is plastic. The zip is a coil type not toothed like the PLCE ones.

Pretty sure that they are one and the same , could be wrong though , wouldn't be the first time either .

I cant remember seeing anyone using the side pockets on a munro ,
Oh RVOPs fit plce zips so normal PLCE pouchs can be fitted

Those pockets fitted both the Munro and Cyclops Roc...

They were Ok on the Roc and I found them nasty on the Munro as they seemed to put the munro out of preportion...

You have the thread the side compression strap buckle through the slots in the side of the black plastic backing then rethread the compression strap buckle to attach them so once they're on they're a bit of a faff to take off definately not as straightforward as a Crusader or PLCE sidepouch...

From memory they are about 5l in capacity.. You could squeeze in a pair of wrapped NBC Overboots with a bit of effort...

Anyone kniow where I could get a pair of the Roc/Munro side pockets from? I've been using a pair of big Aktis belt pouches but they don't fit on particularly well.

Ouch! Cheers! I'll poke around to see if anyone has them cheeper as thats almost half as much as I paid for the Munro in the first place. Maybe I should get some PLCE Zips and sew them on insted!?

I have a Berghaus Munro to which I fit an old pair of Karrimor side pockets similar to the Berghaus ones.

The only difference being that they have a horizontal sleeve on the back of the pouch at the top & bottom through which the side compression straps fit, which appears to be easier than threading through the plastic backing on the Berghaus pockets.

I got mine around 15 years ago so couldn't advise if they're still available, but they do a reasonable job.

That said, I do like the retro-fitted PLCE option as per RVOps.

By the by does anyione know where I can get 2 pair of the PLCE side pocket zips for a reasonable amount?

I like the Munro it's a very tough daysack I loved mine to literally bits and binned it after it wore out it was the old one with the canvas back and the old green berghaus lid clips...

The one thing about the Munro was it was great wearing it with belt kit as it was so short in the back it sat on top of the kit with no problems. Take the belt kit out of the equation and you have a tough daysack with a very short back and a pretty much useless IMHO waistbelt... I know more than one person who cut the waist belt off.

Add 2 15 ltr PLCE sidepouches to the Munro and you'll have a potentially heavy bergen with no waist belt to share the load again fine if worn with belt kit (RV OP's main market). But a potential PITA to lug around if you're carrying it 'normally'.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth... BTW you can attach PLCE side pouches to the Munro without the zips just use the loops on the back of the PLCE pouch and thread them through the compression straps on the side of the Munro.. Later Munro's have thicker webbing on the compression straps than the earlier ones so the pouches sit a bit better....

Cheers! I normally sit the Munro on top of a response pack which supports it a bit like kidney pouches. I'd quite like to have the option of fitting PLCE pouches (I picked up a pair and a yoke cheap and currently they so far they ain't being used) so I can have my thermettte in one and use the other for collecting hanging dead twigs when I bimbling along, so there wouldn't be much weight in them.

The waist belt is pretty much a waste of space, it does stabilise the thing a bit and it has been handy when I have wanted to cinch in a buffalo shirt. On me it's just the right hieght to run through the handwarmer pockets so I can pull the shirt in and still keep my paws warm!

I've been pretty fortunate aquiring rucksacks so if I need more capacity I've a 50 odd litre Macpac Nikau that is just the job for overnighter. I think they have stopped making them which is a shame as it's a great, simple bag and fits me a treat. Truth be said I prefer long thin packs over wide ones as I always seam to be pushing through overgrown paths and gaps in hedges.
