take a damp bit of leather, sprinkle with sand, and smooth down all the rough bits of wood you have, the finer the sand the better the finish

Well, I'm going to take along a little flint, I imagine other than relentless practicing what I've been shown with the flint knapping I'll be generally enjoying the ambience. Bull roarers do look fun though, will any flat plank do? Is that all there is to it?
