your house!
If you lay your jungle bag on the floor, with hood flat on the bottom, then starting at the side of the bag without a zip, fold the hood over till it matches the the edge of the front of the bag, then stitch this up, you have a large but effective under quilt for your hammock like thus.

attached using the existing ties a loop of bungee and a small crab with a prussic for tension.

Hey Southey interesting stuff, I just got a basic hammock and have a jungle bag to spare, was thinking of cutting it up to try to make my own underquilt but trying this way gives me much less of a chance to mess things up!

Is it just sewing the hood closed onto the 'neck hole' (for want of a better word), that's all?

Yup, I did find that it caught the wind a little as it is so I'm going to put some draw cords at either end to gather up the material, also going to fashion a hole at either end so the hammock can pass through and I can still close the zip fully for a total coccoon if needed. I shall put up more pics as it progresses dude.

Great stuff, if you could. Thinking of going down this route instead of completely butchering my buckshee dossbag and probably making a pigs ear of it!

A few more bits modded tonight on the MK2 setup.

locked off the zip using stainless lock wire I will cover the ends with heat shrink.

Then split the zip between the wire locks, i did this gently so as not to damage the zip.

using the lower tie one the foot of the bag and the upper ties at the head i clipped it to the hammock ends to keep it in the right position.

I need to move the tie at the head end onto the hood for a little extra length.

It now doesn't hang down so much and i can close the zip completely for a cocoon if needs be.

All packed up together with a leather man for scale.

next mods are to sew re-enforced holes which the hammock will pass through, in the hood and foot area, so the bag will lie flat as it would on the ground, my machine is bust at the mo, so will take it to the local seamstress for the work(probably be neater too) also to replace the sewn hood with a velcro closer..

Cheers!:camping:

You've had me thinking all day about this now. I don't want to butcher my MOD jungle bag yet but thought I'd try it with a cheap Clas Ohlson one first. Off tonight to get it.

I am taking my explorer unit away in October for a weekend, and plan on having a crack at this before I go. Looking forward to seeing the new mod Southey!

I managed to get 2 jungle issues done for Rough Close last weekend- took the hoods off and seamed them to wear in the hammock n used the shoulder shock cords to tighten em, had to split the end of the bags to get a good snug fit at the foot end but it was pretty cushty in there! Thank you so much for the inspiration and methodology, southey and freinds!

Very nice pod mod mate. That'll keep the Dartmoor fog and mist out and not be rendered useless the way a down UQ might be if fog soaked. How's the ventilation? Breathing enough fresh air? / condensation etc?
