Mitten outer recommendations

I have some old woollen thinsulate mitts, and a pair of very warm primaloft mitts. The latter are fragile and hopeless in the wet. Actually they both are. I don't want to splash out on a new pair of gloves (my heart says go get some hestra falt guide gloves but my wallet is about ready to walk out the door and leave me for good).
So I'm looking for a pair of cheap, goretex outer mitts, to extend the range of what I already have. Does anyone have any recommendations?

(I also have some army mark 2 leather gloves but these are not so insulating.)

Have you looked at Buffalo Mittens, the pair I have are massive so would easily go over exiting gloves.

Buffalo mittens are warm when wet, but they are not waterproof (at least mine aren't) so I wouldn't use them to keep an inner mitten dry.

I've heard they're great in dry snow - how do you find them in damper conditions, sleet, rain etc?
They are wonderful in snow but not much good in rain. I used to climb in the Alps using them and found that they do not wear very well. I suppose the ideal for this country in the chillier season would be a pair of Dachsteins inside some Gore-tex outers...!

I don't use mittens in those conditions normally... But my Dachstein Mittens saw me through 5 full winters in Northern Norway and it wasn't always pristine dry snow.. I didn't have any problems in the freezing rain when it occurred.. Still got all my digits in situ.
They replaced my use of the military inner & outer mittens.. Although when I digging snow holes I used the outer goretex mittens with my contact gloves as inners.
