Hi

I thought it might amuse you to see a few pics of a knife-handling project that nearly finished up in file 13 (and maybe it still should – you decide!)

It started off with one of the drop skinner blades from the nice chaps at Brisa: https://www.brisa.fi/portal/index.p...sMod=product_info&cPath=94_52&products_id=339

I was aiming to make a “maintenance-light” knife for rabitting – stainless blade, black canvas micarta scales, aluminium pin at the front and lanyard hole. Everything was going to plan, until I decided it needed another “dummy” pin in the central cutaway to balance it up. Big mistake. Unfortunately it seems my measuring wasn’t up to scratch, still not sure why, and the hole finished up in completely the wrong place, so the whole thing looked dreadful.

Had I been on my own I might have stripped the scales off started again, but Spam was round and I started to idly cut out the central portion of the scales whilst chatting away. Anyway, to cut a long story short, eventually it looks like this:

So, there are two morals to this tale:
1) Measure twice, cut once (as my granddad used to say)
2) Don’t give up!

Thanks for looking

Noooo.....it's a deliberate design feature ! :D

Actually, that's pretty neat, I like it. That's a really nice knife

cheers,

I like it too! - forget a silly fiddly lanyard, just clip a proper karabiner on :D

I actually realy like that!!

Light weight and fit for purpose!

Considering your design brief top job I would say!

Perfect for lashing to a long pole for harvesting that fungus that's just out of reach, or any other fun use you can think of for a knife lashed to a pole :D

Looks fine to me (though not a fan of stainless or Micarta) - if it is comfy in the hand, does what it is intended for and aint going to fall apart in a hurry, I would say that you have a nice little knife there!

My first thoughts after seeing the picture were,
"What a great idea to save weight and perfect for lashing to a stick to make a spear for fishing"

I wouldn't have owned up to the mistake, it's designed that way :D

Thanks for all the positive comments. I'd seen a picture of a similar (but much better) Eklund(?) full-tang project on t'internet somewhere which gave me some inspiration.

As for pretending it was always designed that way, well.......I'm from Yorkshire, and therefore guile and subterfuge are completely beyond me

Cheers
