Was talking to my boss today about this weekends whoopie sling experiment with the soft shackle.
I then said I might try the marlin spike,,, and out of the blue he said "you going to use some antler for the spike?"

So as soon as I can find the camera will make some and post. :)

So went out Saturday to try the whoopie sling and marlin spike hitch.

This is one on a climbing sling

This one on 2" webbing (Have ordered some 1" huggers from DD to reduce my bulk)

One of my new bishops bags

The hammock and tarp tied to the 1st tree but left in the bags.

Also tried a new prussic knot set up, two - one behind the other, the idea being if I want to close the end of the tarp just slacken the end one and the 2nd one keeps the tension.

All set up

The view this morning.

--Things I found with the new set up --

Might make a toggle set up for the tarp prussic knot.

Need to extend my tarp ridge line just a smidge.

Softie 3 Merlin Sleeping Bag is not much good at -3/-4 even if in a rab assault bivi :)

Using exped compression dry bags for bishop bags works well as the air escapes well when compressed.

All in all I'm a convert to whoopie slings and marlin knots.

They look great, Think I may go the same way, I like the idea of whoopie slings, going to make some soon, they comment I would say is that they are tooooo nice to lose, have you thought about putting a lanyard on them to connect them to the Huggers?.

Those antler toggles worked a treat this weekend in 2" webbing and didn't slip even in torrential rain! but I was able to remove them easily even with dodgey hands. Thanks very much for making them.

word of warning on whoopie slings, webbing straps and marlin spike hitch. Make sure you webbing is really strong and I mean really strong. I'd made myself up a couple of whoopie slings for the last sussex bushcraft meet and rigged up using the slings straight onto the hitch. was testing them out with a fellow 'crafter with both of us sitting on the hammock. Well let's say the whoopie slings did their job, but sadly as the (extreme) strain pulled so tight on the webbing, the whoopie sling cut through it. needless to say, we both add odd bruises to explain once we got home. Think I need to invest into some better webbing.

Can anyone point me to an easy link on how to make the endless paracord loops, my googlefu is very weak at the moment it seems!
