Making a quick fix bow to be used with arrows

how about mountain ash(rowan) has been used in the past for self bows. Or good old birch but beware it creeks like mad. Failing both those my son has a long bow made for the living history group we are involved with. made from the other wonder tree in bushcraft, ash. good luck would love to see pics if you get round to making one.

For a 'quick fix' type bow then Hazel would be a good choice - pick a branch/trunk slim enough and you can string it up straightaway.
Whilst things like elm, yew and ash may make better bows you will need tools to work them.
So, using your 'quick fix' criteria, I would go for hazel.
