Absolutely. Specially if countries they do the work in are of dubious hygienic level.....

Are there any match manufacturers in UK?
Lighters?
Dunhill still make lighters in UK I believe, but they are not so suitable to take out.

Swan lighter fluid is made in the UK still,

All other matches are made by Swedish match company lol, they literally make every match!

There is one specialist match maker in the UK - Octavia hunt in Bristol

No, no, no, no, no - that is far from correct!!!! Plenty of people in the UK backpacked, rough camped, used campfires to cook on carved camp utensils

They certainly did, and what a wealth of knowledge they have been to me.

My Tender Co. Woad dyed trousers and red ochre dyed jeans arrived today. All Made in Britain by a superb little outfit that specialises in plant and veg dyed clothing. Only thing is none of it fitted me! Buying online can be hazardous.

Enough here for study.

My main experience of British made is/was Joseph Lucas, the "Prince of darkness" ;)

This. I use this list to check out British made kit when I feel I've got a few extra pennies to spend on something I need. I seem to recall that the liks on the site used to be far more comprehensive but that may just be memory failing me.

On a slightly different subject, I see a lot of mention of Frost River packs on BCUK but nothing obvious about Trakke.co.uk. Not affiliated with them in any way but I've got three bags from them and they're flawless. I've bought expensive bags from other places and Trakke are the best for craftmanship hands down.

With regard to Harris Tweed, you have to be careful as whilst the tweed originates from Harris, it often ends up in garments that are made abroad, so look past the Harris tweed branding if you're set on ensuring the garment is made in the UK. I've got a genuine Harris tweed jacket and waistcoat that was actually made in Turkey, for example. Works for me, I'm supporting British clothmakers whilst getting finished garments at a reasonable cost, if with a questionable carbon footprint, in hindsight.

There is a whole lot of "cloak and dagger" stuff similar, quality "Italian" boots assembled in China, and Luxury "Swiss" watches. I have a couple of Harris Tweed garments where I bought the cloth from the weaver and personally delivered it to the lady, in Sutherland, who made them up for me.

Aye, shady practises indeed.

Would be good if there was legislation like the US's Berry Compliance - except less fundamentally hegemonistic - that meant you could ensure that goods originated from the same country that their advertising implied.

There are quite a few decent people, making decent stuff in the UK. One or two on here who shouldn't be forgotten about. I got a waxed cotton haversack, and waist pack off Etsy, made in the UK, and very pleased I am with them both. It's too easy to forget about the small independent makers, as they don't have the big advertising budgets to promote their products.
