Hi Guys,

Whilst I'm waiting for my BCFK to turn up (I'm waaaaaay down the list!!! :( ) I was contemplating a purchase of a middling decent knife to while away the rest of the season. Something with a full tang (I've already gone through one Mora training knife whilst battoning!) but not too pricey.

I was looking at the Fallkniven S1 Forest Knife @ £72.95.

Any other suggestions? Already got a Lapp Puukko but I just can't get on with it - I find it slightly too small and the back edge is crap for sparks! :bluThinki

All advice appreciated!!

Hi Phil,

Was in a similiar place my self a while back. Bought my self a Western Cutlery Mountain knife, never heard or seen of them prior to a buddy sending me a pic. Paid about £50.00 for it from British Knife Collectors Gulid site and I aint looked back. In fact I use it more than the blade I was waiting for that cost a small fortune. It comes with a lifetime guarantee as well. Invested in a new sheath (excellent work, thanks Rapidboy). Other wise a fine tool (in my humble opinion) at a fine price.

I have a Fallkniven S1 knife. Very good solid knife. I love it.
It is a rather thick knife though (5mm). A very good allrounder that will take a lifetime of abuse but just for putting a sharp point on a stick, you might want a thinner knife.
Although it also works very well. :)

It all depends on what you want to do with it.

Hi Phil

You say you are not getting on with the Lapp Puukko because it doesn't throw good sparks from a steel. Why don't you try to square off the back of the blade with a fine file should work better. If it's the cutting edge that's a problem I just sorted my Eka W11 which was terrible for wittling by using a hoodoo hone which puts a great convex edge bevel on your blade. Search this forum for the in structions to make one, it's pretty cheap. Hey I'm just trying to save you money arn't I?

Phil why don't you use a small section of hack saw blade for the fire steel just while you wait for your lovely new knife? Me thinks you just want an excuse to buy another sharp thing…..hmmm shiney. Can’t blame you mate.

funny you should say that...I already have done it...
