I work for a steel fabrication company and I had alot of spare time so I decided to make a semi-large knife out of stainless, I'm very pleased of how well the knife looks but sadly its 316SS, for the handle I used laminate flooring, which was surprisingly good. so I was wondering could I make a knife from mild steel?

Yeah, you could make a knife from mild steel. But dont expect it to take a good edge or hold it for long. It will bend easily too. You cant harden it either, but it would make a decent letter opener. :)

Why not just get a piece of high carbon steel? wont set you back more than a tenner, should be much less for a basic carbon.

Just grab some old files or springs from somewhere and take em to work if the scrap is a bit hard to ID, or visit Cromwells tools to get a new bit to get you going.
Have fun
