Lightweight Sleeping Bag

If you want it for hammocking Elen, have you considered a top quilt?

You'll get all the warmth you want for around 800-900g and it will be on budget too. You'll also get goose down, not duck down like you will on more budget down bags like the Alpkits.

I use a down top quilt and down and synthetic sleeping bags in the hammock, but they all get used as a quilt.

I hadn't, TeePee. it's previousl given me a feeling of being uncovered but I've never tried it, so it's all imagination. You obviously like it :). Can you recommend a TQ?

Uk Hammocks is the best option as there's no shipping or import charges like the quilts from the states. Look for winter top quilt.

All on their website ;)

If you do go for it remember to try the Cotswold discount code* open to Full Members of the forum ~ as it's already heavily discounted the code might not work, but it might :D .

*It's listed in the discount section of the FM forum, I can't remember what the discount is but it's definitely still active.

I did try the Cotswold discount code - it came back with "code not known". I tried and checked several times.

The most recent one I could find on a quick search is http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11212&p=1178129#post1178129 . If all else fails phone them up and tell them that your a BcUK Full Member and are having trouble getting the online system to accept the BcUK discount code 'xyz'* and ask whether the code's been updated.

Being able to provide one or more older BcUK discount codes and specifically that the 'xyz' code was listed as valid at the start of October 2012 should help authenticate who you are and that you're entitled to use the code ;) .

I've been discounted in store quite recently ~ I take a same date print-off of my profile page in with me. There'll be a code _somewhere_ in their system, but it seems that you might need to dig :o .

* For anyone wondering 'xyz' isn't a discount code for Cotswold, it is merely a generic such-as device used to illustrate an idea.

EDIT: It could also be that the code does work but items already discounted aren't enabled for additional discount codes.

Here on the US market there are three manufacturers that are on top of the charts when it comes to lightweight high quality, ethically made sleeping bags. Two of them, Western Mountaineering and Feathered Friends are made in the US, the third Valandre is made in France. In the UK I hear PHD has good quality ones, but we don't really have them here so I can't say much about them.

For a 4 season bag under 1000gm, I believe you have to go with down if you want to stay warm. I have the WM Antelope and the Puma, and am very happy with both at the respective temperatures.
