Leather handle finishing - how?

I'm finishing a knife made from a blade from Karesuando knives.

I've made de handle from leather pieces, bone and boxwood.

What is the best way do give it a good finishing??

I don't have a knife with a leather washered grip but one of my (Estwing) hammers for work does.

When I got it new it was covered in a pretty nasty thick varnish, it was pretty slippy and I just sanded it off and have used the hammer for about four years like that, I have it at my side every working day (Unless I am shuttering in which case I use a longer shafted hammer with rip claws) and so far have had no problems with it.
Good grip and nice to hold.

So in short I would just use very fine asndpaper on it and thats it.

If I absolutely had to put something on it I would be tempted to just use something like Danish oil to seal it a bit.

NO varnish though, unless its just going to spend the rest of its days in a drawer, in which case it will look nice

Get youself a rubber glove and sit outside with superglue, rub it all over with the glove, working it in, then finish down with wire wool.

Comes up a treat. Feels like the best of leather and the best of wood.

Thanks, I've made like you said. But first I give it Linseed oil.
