Nice one
He looks all puffed up in his feathery duvet, doesn't he?
The ones around here always seem quite peachy pink coloured over their breasts.
Funnily enough, and it's the first time I have *ever* seen it, a wren came to peck at the crumbled stuff.
I have a lot of wrens in the garden, but they usually skitter along through the hedges and the ivy and among the stones at the edges of the ponds.
I think the recommendation is to use any animal fat but not the vegetable stuff for fat balls.
Oh, and, rendered lard is really, really messy stuff
Good old fashioned suet or the contents of the frying pan if it goes hard is excellent.
cheers,
Toddy
