Well I’ve reached a big milestone in my membership and contributions to the forum… As someone, who shall remain nameless, said recently to me by PM I’m only ½ a post a day less gobby than Mr Fenna

Anyway, as per custom and practice on the forum for things like this I’m doing a competition. I gave it a lot of thought and decided to make you lot work for the prize :lmao:

So… how well do you know your tree barks?

As you can see, I’ve taken close up pictures of 10 different tree species, all of which can be found growing wild in the UK and can be regarded as native or naturalised.

All you have to do is correctly identify all 10 species. When you post your guesses I will tell you how many out of 10 you have correctly identified. To make it harder I WON’T tell you which ones you’ve got right though so you’ll have to work it out by trial and error which ones are the correct answers. The other thing to bear in mind is I may not have used adult trees as subjects for the pictures ;)

Once I have scored your entry you’re free to enter again so good luck with it

Wait…I hear you ask… what’s the prize?

The prize will be goody box stuffed full of bushcrafting bits and pieces and I can assure you there’ll be some nice bits in it ;)

So without further ado and waffling onto the competition…

Bark 1

Bark 2

Bark 3

Bark 4

Bark 5

Bark 6

Bark 7

Bark 8

Bark 9

Bark 10

Still just 2 right Dwardo :)

I guess I am far too rusty in my tree ID :)
Would be much easier if we had a glance at the shape of the trunk or something for scale, where they are growing maybe.
Will leave it upto the hexperts.

You got twice as many right as me. I'll sleep on it and might try again later.

Congratulations on your 10,000, Steve.

My knowledge of barks doesn't extend much beyond woof-woof and bow-wow so I'll leave it at that.

Good luck to everyone else.

Congrats on the milestone.... Think it be worth some google-fu to try and identify them... Have been wanting to be able to identify trees more
