Hi Everyone!

Do you have a first aid kit? A car kit? An earthquake/hurricane/blizzard kit?

When is the last time you inspected it?

I procrastinate. It's not something I'm proud of. I set my electronic calendar to remind me to check all of my kits on January 1st. I actually got around to it this week.

This year's first aid kit refresh...

An emergency kit is useless if it's not there when you need it. Have you ever reached for your first aid kit only to find expired medicine - on the second day of a multi-day backpack trip? Fortunately, I was with a group that was well prepared.

Here is a link to a write-up with my checklist of perishable items (write-up/checklist).

Can you think of others I missed?

Regards,

Yep. Done mine.
My first aid kit is used for work too so gets inspected before expeds season and kit replaced and rotated.
The kit that is past "use by" but still in good nick goes into my car first aid kit, the car stuff goes into my kitchen first aid kit (I'd still be confident to use it on myself), the kitchen stuff then gets used as training kit.
I updated my grab bag in the boot last summer and checked the food and water state.

Angry Pirate, using expired stuff (i.e. gauze pads) to put together a training kit is a great idea. I just began to do the same.

Not my idea, I'm afraid. Inherited it from wiser heads than mine!
I use it for first aid training for D of E and the like. Really handy to let the kids get hands on with the stuff and saves binning it :)

Mine (3 kits, travel/work, campervan & Suzy's car) get sorted every xmas and normally replace bits as they get used, though in the last 3 years all I've used is half a dozen plasters and four paracetamol. Kind of works in favour of my assumption that if you've got it you won't need it, but I'd rather it be that way round :D.

Good heads up/reminder though just before the spring outings. :)

Rob.

I usually go over my kit once a year before the season begins and replace expired items. When I have used anything I replace it as soon as I can after coming home. So I'm quite confident it's up to date.

My 1st aid kit is in serious need of refreshing. As to my hurricane kit, well, that constantly refreshes itself through rotation (truth be told, it's not really a "kit." It's just normal food, meds, and supplies enough to last a couple of weeks.
