Is there any stain that will work on animal horn??

I was wondering if it is possible to add colour to animal horn (eg antelope or sheep horn) Is there any specialised sort of stain that would actually soak into the horn rather than a paint that would be layered over it? I have tried a paint finish (aerosol spray) but it isnt very durable. Any ideas or suggestions?

Indian Ink will do it. Available in a multitude of colours.

Thanks for your suggestion, and apologies for my slow response....!
Once the ink is on the animal horn, is it permanent, or will it tend to wear off in time?
