I've heard that she's actually a wood spirit.

Or that she drinks spirits in the wood.

Or something like that.

: )

An interesting first post Rich, it might be an idea to introduce yourself in the intro forum
I expect that Ray’s just not sexist and whoever he’s got teaching his courses is very good at it and very capable. They wouldn’t get the job otherwise.

As for the rest of your questions it might be worth calling Woodlore and asking them, they’ll have a much better idea and be able to explain anything you’re interested in.

If you need the contact details I’ll be more than happy to pass them on to you.

Look forward to reading more about you :D

I'm sorry but I fail to see the relevance of your question Richard.

Does the idea of a female instructor trouble you?

Thankfully Woman are in charge the majority of the time, whether we choose to fully acknowledge it or not............. but then perhaps you are not married.

I'm going to try to stick to the question. I went on a Bushcraft course earlier this year in Inverness. The lady who ran it was called Willow Lohr and she does work from time to time for Ray Mears. If anyone is in doubt she was an excellent teacher, knew her Bushcraft, so what more could anyone ask? She may not be the one but if she is I know you'll be in good hands. :)

I'll keep my thought about your post private ... and I completely agree with Stuart.
IF Woodlore has a femal instructor, it would be topnotch! Think it's Collette, as she was training to become an instructor in 2004 when I did my Fundamental. If it's her Woodlore have another great person in their ranks, as Collette a very pleasant person (although I only spook her for a few minutes - she stood in the way when I tried to make a piccie ... I suspect her of doing that on purpose :D :lmao: ). Really, she's a star!

The one I met on the fundamentals, was about 5'2'' tall had blonde hair and used a grunfos axe like a viking on the rampage... Very, very charming, do not mess with her you may end up as dog food in the forest!

She cooked a mean salmon as well.

That's a great sounding name 'Willow Lohr'
When I saw this thread in the list it read like 'Is Ray Mears a Fundamentalist'!

Guess that's not a good reputation to have when your sixteen and a half, and just starting sixth form!

Anyway, If it's true that's just great, nothing to prove as to be a female instructor in a mainly Male dominated activity speaks for itself.

Bet you wouldn't find that many blokes being instructors in any female dominated activities.
