Try as I might DrStrange I can't find one bit of that which I agree with, sorry. :(
(perhaps if came from one of these male orientated societies or was a knife nut I might)
.....but each to their own, all entitled to an opinion.

Don't see what it has to do with who's running his mearship's courses these days though.
I've camped, climbed, canoed, paraglided, been motorcycle touring, etc with females and have always just got the impression that some lassies like some things and others don't - just the same as guys.

continue by all means mate :D you've been here long enough to know when to stop and take a breath;)

Ok I've taken my post off, (again) obviously I haven't been on these fora long enough to be able to judge what views are or aren't permitted.

May I ask a question: What is the percentage of membership of this site male/female?

Ok perhaps I should follow the thread and try to ascertain wether RM's leader is 'hot', as posed in the thread header??? (this is sarcasm in case of misunderstanding)

And I wonder wether the bc site membership statistcs support the idea that lasses preferences are the same as guys when it comes to BC

Pretty high percentage male I think.

There's no doubt that some outdoor pursuits and bushcraft in particular are male dominated and yeah, there's truth in what you said.

Ex-forces has to be an ideal direction to come from for bushcraft instructors.
While I sometimes think some folk overstate the advantages of all the military training(e.g. talking like civvies don't have or have never heard of night vision  ) there is no denying that survival training will stand you in better stead than none and form a better base as an instructor than civvie camping.

Since the military is predominantly male it would figure that there may be more males trying out for instructors jobs. However, of the four botanists in my work(nowt to do with bushcraft), three of them are female, and that is equaly as good a direction to come from.

Some lassies would likely fit into the "happy with the alpha male around" scenario you mentioned. It's just that none of the ones I've met at meets do. They've all been strong willed individuals who have their own ideas about what's what.

By the way, I didn't say anything was a pile of XXXX, just that I didn't agree with it.
Don't hold back your opinion on anybody's account, and certainly not mine. I live a very fine line on forums myself, prefering mainly to not get involved rather than risk having to engage catfighting prima-donna mode. :)

Phew, prattling on a bit, but I was busy and couldn't post earlier so I'm just making up for it.

Couldn't be bothered to read the whole of this thread. Not sure if the orrigional question was answered. if it wasn't answered, as far as I am aware it IS a women. Called Annette, she also does the introduction to bushcraft course.

She is a top instructor and knows her stuff. Cant praise her enough. Ex keeper at Marwell Zoo. They may have others but Netty is a great instructor.

Nettie is really good, been doing the job for several years as assistant before being made course leader. If she wasnt any good she wouldnt be there. Mr Mears doesnt hang on to dead wood for long by all accounts
If in doubt then do the course, then youll be able to speak from first hand knowledge.

Y'know, this thread annoys me
Male/ female? so long as they are competent; big yawn really.
Sexist attitude, just because it's *real* life, is demeaning to both the focus and the gawker.
Try the other way around; male bushcrafters in all their OD green glory, tools belted round a lean waist, rolled up sleeves displaying well toned muscled chests and arms, powerful thighs, and those very capable hands (Okay, Barbara Cartland I'm not  )
Bet the guys are all cringing now, though ;) and I didn't say one word that ought to cause offence on a family site :p
But that doesn't make it acceptable.

There are an awful lot of women out there doing bushcraft type pursuits, there are a lot on this forum, but in general it only needs one big mouthed testosterone arrogant numpty to turn them all off and they quietly go their own way. Not scared, not intimidated, not overwhelmed, just underimpressed
Those menfolk who genuinely enjoy women's company on the other hand are most welcome :) and life is richer for their presense.

I'll probably think better of this post in the morning..........maybe not.

Cheers,
Toddy

Well done Toddy. I think you helped get it into perspective, and your images were a lot more reserved than they could have been. I suspect a wind up myself..

the only requirements i have for an instructor is that they are to be competent and have instructional ability.
male/female, don't care. i'll learn from anyone who has something to teach.
i don't see what the fuss is about.
