How long dried fruit lasts

I regularly get asked how long things last that we have dehydrated.

Well this week we started on the annual apple preserving slog. As I snack today I ate some dried apple rings we made last year.

I can confidently assure people that apples that have had no more preservation than 12 hours in a dehydrator will last for more than a year

Do you store them in a dark/cool place? If so do you think it helps?

I do because our "pantry" is an unheated outbuilding. Im sure it can't hurt, but I think they would do fine in the house, just we need a bigger cottage
